Here you’ll find out more about our payment provider GoCardless, and the ways we are working to make our service as seamless as possible.

About GoCardless

It’s critical to us that your financial information is kept secure at all times. Our Direct Debit partner GoCardless uses strong encryption to keep you safe and is approved by the biggest names in payments. Built securely from the ground up, Gocardless are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority to provide payment services as an Authorised Payment Institution. They serve more businesses than any other Direct Debit provider. All money collected is held in a secure client monies account with either the Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays Bank, BNP Paribas, Danske Bank, JP Morgan, RBC, CFSB or ASB.

How does GoCardless protect my data?

  • Gocardless’ access to the Direct Debit system is provided by major banks, who have approved the system.
  • Their global data risk management programme is built to GDPR standards and applies privacy best practices to help protect and respect personal data.
  • Their financial data server is separated from our application server by multiple firewalls.
  • The client-server communication is 256-bit SSL encrypted. The banking system requires just 128-bit.
  • They have received ISO 27001 certification for information security.

Over the last few years the Shiatsu Society has been working hard to simplify and improve our systems. To support our sustainability objectives and to utilise your membership fees in the most effective way, we have moved to a digital membership renewal process, this involves streamlining our administration and fee systems to ensure that our time is wisely spent on providing you with a better service all-round.

Failed payment second requests

Occasionally we have payment requests which fail, due to incorrect payment details, insufficient account funds or a change of payment details. In this circumstance we may request a second payment request for the same DD due to help minimise the administration involved in settling payments for both parties.

One off charge to correct a missing or failed payment

We occasionally utilise GoCardless Instant Bank Pay to take one-off payments from new and existing customers. The process is extremely fast, reliable and convenient for both parties enabling us to collect missed or failed payments, or apply a partial payment when joining or take payment for an upgrade.

Payment pause option

We may, if required, use a payment pause if an amendment or break is needed from your subscription rather than create a new order at a later date.

Amends to Direct Debits

From time to time we may request an amendment to the monthly DD taken, for example if we’ve setup your mandate past our monthly cutoff for reporting, we may ask for the payment to be split across 11 months rather than 12 months pro rata.

Refund policy

Refunds are considered on a case by case basis, with consideration made on when the request was made, when payment was taken, and individual circumstances. Please contact [email protected] if you wish to discuss an individual matter.

Annual and Monthly Subscription Ending Message (For DD and ADD payment types)

For those of you who pay by Direct Debit, our partner GoCardless is legally obliged to send an ‘end of subscription’ message to inform you when your year's subscription has been completed.

This doesn’t mean your DD mandate or membership has ended and no action is needed on your part. Unfortunately, we can’t turn off this messaging as it’s a banking compliance requirement. So just to reassure you - your DD mandate continues, your insurance (if a practising member, still applies) and your membership is secure.
