The Shiatsu Society
Established in 1981, the Shiatsu Society is the UK's leading professional Shiatsu organisation. Shiatsu is a unique stand-alone complementary therapy which supports health and well being. We are committed to the spirit and ethos of Shiatsu and the development of integrated and accessible healthcare.
The Shiatsu Society, part of the European Shiatsu Federation, was set up by a small group of Shiatsu practitioners and teachers. Since then the Society has grown to form a network linking interested individuals, students, practitioners and teachers, and fulfils the role of the Professional Association for Shiatsu Practitioners. Currently, there are nearly 1,300 members of whom a third are on the Register of Professional Practitioners of the Shiatsu Society (MRSS).
What we do

The nature and purpose of the Shiatsu Society has always been to promote and facilitate communication between our members and to educate the public about Shiatsu. Our aim is to link all those with an interest in Shiatsu, regardless of philosophy, level of knowledge, approach or style of practice.

The Shiatsu Society Journal
The nature and purpose of the Shiatsu Society has always been to promote and facilitate communication between our members and to educate the public about Shiatsu. Our aim is to link all those with an interest in Shiatsu, regardless of philosophy, level of knowledge, approach or style of practice. To this end we publish a quarterly journal, The Shiatsu Society Journal. A readership subscription is available for non members of the Society who wish to receive the Journal.

“As the largest Shiatsu Professional Association in the UK we strive to promote Shiatsu and ensure excellence in safe practice, training and professional conduct of all Shiatsu practitioners.”
If you are a Shiatsu practitioner or student who believes that quality and personal contact still count, then the Shiatsu Society (UK) would like to work with you to make Shiatsu a household name, thus enabling all practitioners to run a busy, viable practice. Amongst many other benefits, we provide you with the tools to help you market yourself and the benefits of Shiatsu, and unlike other organisations, we don’t just communicate with you, we connect with you and your needs. Purely Shiatsu.
“Why do I value the Shiatsu Society? Where to start?! Journal, insurance, professionalism, promotion of Shiatsu, a friendly and swift response to my Shiatsu enquiries.” Katharine Hall, MRSS(T)
