Shiatsu Schools in Scotland

There are many Shiatsu Schools in England and Scotland, and they all offer:

• A structured way to study Shiatsu
• A Diploma which will eventually enable you to join the Shiatsu Society Practitioner Register
• An opportunity to study with like-minded people
• Space to look at your own personal development
• A safe, supportive atmosphere to learn and practise

Many schools also offer practice classes, guest teachers and student placements (usually in the third year) and student clinics.

Training at a Shiatsu Society Ratified School

Most schools are headed by experienced practitioners, who are registered as teachers with the Shiatsu Society. They run courses which follow the syllabus set by the Shiatsu Society. The areas covered include the following practical Shiatsu techniques:

• the Classical Meridian system
• Five Element Theory
• Zen Shiatsu - Theory and Practice
• Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

As well as orthodox western anatomy, physiology and pathology. Other topics include communication and listening skills, taking case histories, and self-development exercises, such as Do-in and Chi Gung.

Graduates of fully ratified schools will have undertaken the following:

• A minimum 350 hours of Shiatsu study with a Shiatsu Society Teacher
• An additional 150 hours Shiatsu study
• Hands-on practice (e.g. on other students and friends/family)
• Theory assessments covering the core curriculum as defined in the Society's Rules and Regulations
• Practical assessments as set by the School

To join the Shiatsu Society Register (MRSS) a graduate of a ratified School will additionally be required to pass an assessment day and submit case studies or carry out a (PGY) Post Graduate Year.

Most Schools have a prospectus so it is important that you make contact to check that the School will meet your needs. Do not hesitate to contact the Principal of the School for further clarification. A number of Schools run their courses at weekends. Some also run block residential courses or mid-week courses.
