Spend and Raise Funds for Shiatsu Research

SHIATSU SOCIETY RESEARCH PROJECT

All Shiatsu Society Registered Practitioners will be invited to participate

Aim: To Investigate the main conditions for which clients currently receive Shiatsu in the U.K. and to investigate which symptoms respond best to Shiatsu treatment.

Duration: 1 year. Practitioner feedback and review after 6 months.

Benefits for Practitioners: Participation in research project using a scientifically validated outcome measures tool (MYMOP); and getting clear and precise client feedback. You will also be gaining CPD points.

Benefits for Clients: Knowing their treatment and feedback are being continuously monitored for best outcomes.

Benefits for the Shiatsu Society
Contributing to the evidence base for best practice in current healthcare, and responding to requests by members for facilitating their active research.

Method

This is a MYMOP (measure yourself medical outcomes profile) study. It will involve inviting clients to participate and obtaining consent. It will involve filling in a MYMOP form before every single treatment of each participating client. (This will ensure outcome measure even if the client does not return for a final appointment.) It will involve storing the forms for one year and then sending them in to the Shiatsu Society for analysis.

The extra time this takes within each treatment should not exceed that which would normally be taken in reviewing client history and progress before a treatment, and could take the place of this as a formal procedure.

Members will be contacted shortly with information on what to do if they want to be involved.

Exhibitions

The Shiatsu Society attends several exhibitions each year around the UK in order to promote Shiatsu and its benefits. Our stands always have a minimum of three practitioners giving taster treatments at any time. All practitioners working on the stand have had a minimum of 3 years training and are fully qualified, fully insured and adhere to our Code of Conduct and Ethics. Taster treatments start from only £5 so come along and try it. Competitions are regularly run at the exhibitions.
